When would you say computers were invented? Was it Konrad Zuse in 1938? Charles Babbage in 1822? Pascal around 1645? Think again!

Historians of science believe that the strange Antikythera Mechanism found in a Greek shipwreck one hundred years ago is actually a very elaborate instrument that could calculate and illustrate astronomical information, particularly phases of the Moon and planetary motions, in the second century B.C.!



Historians of technology think the instrument is technically more complex than any known device for at least a millennium afterward.
