Linux' most popular and heavily financed distro Ubuntu is coming with a new major release in a couple of days. I've blogged about the benefits of Linux earlier and I think this would be a great distribution to start with if you have never used Linux before. Just download or order a cd (for free ;)) and put it in your pc. This will boot Linux without installing it! Now you can have a look, see that it's working out of the box and install it on your hard drive (if you like it) to make it run faster and to let it boot as standard or secondary OS. You can requist the cd's or download the iso when time has come:


Update @ Oct 3, 2007: I just found out the Ubuntu team has already released a beta of version 7.10 (or 'Gutsy Gibbon' as they like to say- but I'm not gonna call it that - no way, sir!). New features include: standard compiz, desktop search and a lot of other useful and rich applications (as far as I can tell from the screen shots). See the official page for the beta here
